Stormwater Pollution Is A Concern To The Environment
In major metropolitan areas, stormwater pollution is a serious problem that is greatly damaging to local environments and water quality throughout the world. The stormwater system was originally designed to route excess water during heavy storms that could potentially flood a metropolitan area into local waterways to be more properly distributed into larger bodies of water. However, stormwater pollution occurs due to the various chemicals, debris, and other toxins that are swept away from these systems directly into the environment. So, while they do decrease the chance of flooding, the toxic chemicals are making some areas less desirable to live in due to the effects of the stormwater pollution. To deal with this problem, many systems are being updated with filters that try to catch these chemicals and debris, but they are still not being used by many cities throughout the world.
